Artist's Comments

You'll have to forgive the horrible scan quality *grumble*.

Well anyway, this is what I've spent my day doing so far. This is my first ever personal attempt at watercolour painting. So as you can see I still need lots more practice.
(The drawing was done just after Christmas)

This is a creature idea of mine; I'm not sure if it's already been done.
Basically it's a Kelpie which has spent such a long time sleeping under water, that shells have rested and stuck to it's head. It's not a seperate species, just a variant of the Kelpie.

Any tips and suggestions for watercolour would be greatly appreciated :D.

Could use a giant hermit crab shell variant.

Not that he'll ever win the derby lugging that around.

That's such a neat idea :ohnoes: ingenious.

I thought it was copics when i first saw it!!!

Mmmmm... there's different techniques for watercolor.

Which one did you use?

There's dry brush, splatter, wet brush, etc.

They all bring different effects. Tutorials could help, if you go searching for them, and or you can ask fellow artists :aww:. I know someone who's VERY good at watercolor. She smooths them a lot. Want to ask her? ~mattcha

:ohnoes: It has goat's eyes!!! I like the barnacles that are stuck on its hindquarters, and the tail and mane are pretty.

Great drawing... the loose watercolour style fits perfectly. Not sure exactly what you mean by any tips for watercolours... you've done a fine job getting that loose, washy look.

have you seen any of Alan lee's watercolours for his Lord Of the Rings book illustrations... I don't think there's a better watercolourist alive (IMHO).
Lovely work!

I think the watercolors were nicely done. The close-up is particularly stunning. I love it.

The flames and smoke climbed out of every window
And disappeared with everything that you held dear
And you shed not a single tear for the things that you didn't need
